For a long time, scholars have highlighted the singular consonance between phenomenolo-gy and some ideas of Rosmini. Among the latter, the "fundamental feeling" proves to be extraordinarily suitable for interpreting the reality of man as embodied self. Starting from Merleau-Ponty, this view of man still feeds a lively debate in contemporary French phe-nomenology, in particular through the voices of Michel Henry and by Renaud Barbaras.

Jean-Luc Marion et Renaud Barbaras critiquent une conception trop étroite et restrictive de la rationalité classique et ils examinent des phénomènes clés mais difficilement visibles (tels que la naissance, la révélation, la vie, le désir et le sentiment) qui permettent de l’élargir le champ de rationalité objective vers des rationalités alternatives qui structurent nos expérience du monde. Il ne s’agit pas d’un choix méthodologique subjectif, mais des phénomènes qui se proposent de servir de guide pour ouvrir la voie vers une exploration des champs de recherche théologique ou métaphysique. Marion et Barbaras interrogent la théologie ou la métaphysique comme raison d’être de la phénoménologie, pendant que la phénoménologie pourrait être définie, en retour, comme la raison qui nous fait connaître la théologie ou la métaphysique.
S’inscrivant d’une certaine manière dans le changement de paradigme des nouvelles phénoménologies en France , ils thématisent (malgré la différence des stratégies qu’ils proposent) l’« événementialité » de l’apparaître qui réunit plusieurs caractéristiques du phénomène: la formation spontanée du sens, l’excès non-objectif au cœur du phénomène comme monde et le caractère paradoxal du donné. La phénoménalité du phénomène ne peut acquérir de consistance qu’à la condition de se dépasser elle-même en un « événement » où se conjoignent radicalement la phénoménologie et son autre, et ce qu’elle n’est pas. Selon Marion, un tel événement correspond à une présence absolue ou bien une sur-présence, alors que Barbaras parle d’une négativité radicale, d’une scission pour caractériser un archi-événement. Malgré la distance entre horizons sur lesquels ils pensent, ils touchent un point limite ou point aveugle de la démarche phénoménologique, le point où elle devient un questionnement portant sur la rationalité phénoménologique du monde à savoir le mode de discours par lequel on entend décrire ce qui est en tant qu’il apparaît.

The reception of phenomenology in art criticism reached its apex in the mid-1960s in its application to Minimalism in the United States. The focus was on the embodied, direct perceptual experience of Minimalist sculpture, but in light of Conceptual art's 'dematerialised' practices, which developed as the decade progressed, the interest in phenomenology waned. This paper looks at the history of this reception and presents Merleau-Ponty's late ontological work as a corrective to an inadequate understanding of phenomenology in critical discourses on art at the time. It argues that the late Merleau-Ponty offers tools for an effective critique of early conceptualism's idealism, as well as a basis on which the 'dematerialised' and dispersed ontology of the art work shared by both Conceptual and more recent Post-Conceptual practices can be investigated.

Este texto presenta en un primer momento el movimiento propio de la fenomenología a-subjetiva de Patočka a partir de su crítica de la versión subjetivista del aparecer, para así posteriormente mostrar una dinámica fenomenológica que comprende la manifestación como la obra misma del mundo. En este sentido, el destino de la fenomenología se trasciende en la elaboración del a priori universal de la correlación que estipula la universalidad de una manifestación anónima. Es así que finalmente la fenomenología se modifica en una cierta cosmología que nos obligará a repensar una nueva acepción del ser del sujeto, postulando a su vez un nuevo sentido de ser del mundo.

In this article, we will analyse the different ways in which Merleau-Ponty deals with the problem of phenomenological subjectivity, consisting of the tension between the definition of the subject as transcendental power and his belonging to the world. We can draw two fundamental paths: the embodiment of consciousness through perception, that characterises the first production of Merleau-Ponty, and the belonging of the subjective body to the world through a common and enfolding ground, the flesh, that permeates his last ontology. After that, following the criticism of Renaud Barbaras, we will consider the limits of the notion of flesh, that would be ineffective to solve the dualism between subject and world. According to Barbaras, what is lacking in Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology is a veritable reflection on manifestation, as proto-phenomenalisation. Nevertheless, it is possible, in our opinion, to track down an attempt to formulate a “phenomenality without subject” on the basis of Merleau-Ponty’s analysis on the expressivity of animal appearance.
