A workshop on bomb radiocarbon age validation for tuna and billfish in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) was held in early July 2020. Experts in otolith ageing and bomb radiocarbon methods discussed the encouraging results from preliminary radiocarbon work for tuna and agreed that the application of radiocarbon methods to validate age estimates derived from tuna and billfish otoliths from the WCPO was feasible. A design study was developed, using available otolith samples from the WCPFC Tuna Tissue Bank and other collections, and a draft research plan is proposed for consideration at SC16 (Appendix C). The recommendations from the workshop include that the:

• SC16 consider supporting these research plans with a budget contribution of USD97,980 (Appendix

Let us narrow down the scope of the important problematic issue of our judgments: "Why is it necessary to have a living substance, the smallest part of which should be oriented Reasonably in its civilizational development, including through the rite of Man himself with all the complexity of his functions on Earth, as an important hypostasis of the Mind? Is this smallest part of the entire immensity of the living substance of the planet so important in its development that such an indefinitely vast amount of energy substance in the form of "energy-information" should be spent on the organization of its controlled being and development of its Mind? We are just beginning in our present state of Consciousness and our level of cognition to touch very superficially new facets of the true methodology of value accepted in the whole Universe, but even this already amazes our understanding of the reality by the volumes of the worth of exchange connected with the processes of Human being's regeneration! Even without suspecting earlier that in some small or large number of such energy invested at least in the simplified past managed existence of people (in the conditions of their so-called material application under the old interventionist system), nowadays it is very difficult for us to imagine and express, at least on the conceptual level, what we can "cost energetically" to our native planet in the future, at the same time, we guarantee and confidently strive to provide ourselves with the volume of energy-cost comfort that we love, significantly consciously increasing the amount of usage of both electric and magnetic energy, as if forming the basis for the synthesis of the future known and unknown substance that we need, on the one hand, and the usage of energy substances of "energy-time" and, especially, "energy-information", on the other hand, which is still unknown to us! But how can one "be admitted by the level of cognition" from "outside" to the subtleties of such an extremely complicated process for the present generation of people? As for the part of questions about the scientific problem related to the Reasonable Orientation of the Earth's civilizational development, we have repeatedly emphasized that such Orientation is necessarily embodied with the direct participation of a Man, the development of states and functions of his Brain, his direct participation in cognition of the truth about the 'Created World', his gaining of the perfect Reason, constant development of the elements of individual and public Consciousness as the level of cognition increases, and much more. Modern science has not yet expressed such an approach and awareness of its significance for itself, nor has it ever asked. What role can gravity play in this question, what is its controlling position? At the moment of judgment, a superficial consideration of the physics of this most complex question is quite enough for us, because deep judgment and research are separate scientific directions of the physics of the Brain and the physics of the cell, as directions of science in the near future. This book is written for upper-division undergraduates and new graduate students in meteorology, ocean engineering, and oceanography. Because these students have a diverse background, I have emphasized ideas and concepts more than mathematical derivations. Unlike most books, I am distributing this book for free in digital format via the world-wide web. I am doing this for two reasons:
1. Textbooks are usually out of date by the time they are published, usually a year or two after the author finishes writing the book. Randol Larson, writing in Syllabus, states: “In my opinion, technology textbooks are a waste of natural resources. They’re out of date the moment they are published. Because of their short shelf life, students don’t even want to hold on to them”—(Larson, 2002). By publishing in electronic form, I can make revisions every year, keeping the book current.
2. Many students, especially in less-developed countries cannot afford the high cost of textbooks from the developed world. This then is a gift from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration nasa to the students of the world.

The feedback between global vegetation greenness and surface air temperature and precipitation is assessed using remote sensing observations of monthly fraction of photosynthetically active radiation (FPAR) for 1982 to 2000 with a 2.5° grid resolution. Lead/lag correlations are used to infer vegetation–climate interactions. Furthermore, a statistical method is used to quantify the efficiency of vegetation feedback on climate in the observations. This feedback analysis provides a first quantitative assessment of global vegetation feedback on climate. In northern mid- and high latitudes, vegetation variability is found to be driven predominantly by temperature; in the meantime, vegetation also exerts a strong positive feedback on temperature with the feedback accounting for over 10%–25% of the total monthly temperature variance. Rising levels of carbon dioxide since the preindustrial era have likely contributed to an observed warming of the global surface, and observations show global greening and an expansion of boreal forests. This study reproduces observed climate and vegetation trends associated with rising CO2 using a fully coupled atmosphere–ocean–land surface GCM with dynamic vegetation and decomposes the effects into physiological and radiative components. The simulated warming trend, strongest at high latitudes, was dominated by the radiative effect, although the physiological effect of CO2 on vegetation (CO2 fertilization) contributed to significant wintertime warming over northern Europe and central and eastern Asia. The net global greening of the model was primarily due to the physiological effect of increasing CO2, while the radiative and physiological effects combined to produce a poleward expansion of the boreal forests. This study analyzes the response of global water vapor to global warming in a series of fully coupled climate model simulations. The authors find that a roughly 7% K−1 rate of increase of water vapor with global surface temperature is robust only for rapid anthropogenic-like climate change. For slower warming that occurred naturally in the past, the Southern Ocean has time to equilibrate, producing a different pattern of surface warming, so that water vapor increases at only 4.2% K−1. This lower rate of increase of water vapor with warming is not due to relative humidity changes or differences in mean lower-tropospheric temperature. A temperature of over 80°C would be required in the Clausius–Clapeyron relationship to match the 4.2% K−1 rate of increase. Instead, the low rate of increase is due to spatially heterogeneous warming. The evolution of decadal subduction temperature anomalies in the subtropical North Pacific is studied using a simple and a complex ocean model. It is found that the amplitude of the temperature anomaly decays faster than a passive tracer by about 30%-50%. The faster decay is caused by the divergence of group velocity of the subduction planetary wave, which is contributed to, significantly, by the divergent Sverdrup flow in the subtropical gyre. The temperature anomaly also seems to propagate southward slower than the passive tracer, or mean ventilation flow. This occurs because the mean potential vorticity gradient in the ventilated zone is directed eastward; the associated general beta effect produces a northward propagation for the temperature anomaly, partially canceling the southward advection by the ventilation flow.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the direct impact of El Niño in the tropical Pacific on the East Asian summer precipitation . Generalized equilibrium feedback assessment is used to isolate this direct impact from interrelated ocean forcings in the observations. Results indicate that the El Niño can directly influence the summer precipitation in East China significantly. The precipitation response presents a tri-pole pattern, with anomalous wet in the Southeast and the Northeast China and anomalous dry in the northern China. Amplitude of the precipitation response is around 20 % of the total precipitation for 1 °C El Niño forcing in most area of the East China, with maximal response up to 30 %/°C. The tri-pole precipitation response is attributed to an El Niño-induced cyclonic anomaly in the Northeast Asia and an anticyclonic anomaly in the western North Pacific (WNP). The anomalous cyclone deepens the East Asian trough southwestward, favoring an air ascending in front of the trough in the Southeast and the Northeast China, and an air descending at the rear of the trough in the northern China. The anomalous anticyclone in the WNP strengthens the WNP Subtropical High northeastward, providing adequate water vapor to the Southeast China. The anomalous cyclone and anomalous anticyclone work together to generate the tri-pole precipitation response pattern in the East China. Further investigation suggests that these two key anomalous circulations are part of a northwestward propagating Rossby wave, which is excited by the El Niño warming-induced convection over the subtropical west-central Pacific. This study can serve as a reference for the prediction of the East Asian precipitation in both the developing and decaying summer of El Niño.
