After 63 year of Independence and a population of one billion, India is the largest democracy in the world. To sustain this democracy and freedom, it is very necessary to ensure economic empowerment and better quality of life for all the citizens of India. Since the real India lives in villages, the rural development has assumed high priority and it is one of the very important factors of the Indian economy. The Industrial Policy Resolution in 1956 gave the public sector enterprises a strategic role in Indian Economy and the public sector was thought of as the engine for self-reliant economic growth to develop a sound agricultural and industrial base, diversify the economy and overcome economic and social backwardness. In this paper, we shall address the trade-off between the social and economic objectives of public sector enterprises with a focus on the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and its role in the community development and social welfare of Neyveli population.

With advancement in technologies, the world has started to witness certain changes that could well undermine women and girls’ access to, active use of ICTs and their participation in decision-making on ICTs.  Digital revolution caused by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, robotics, etc., could have adverse effects on both men and women in years to come.  The risks facing the humanity due to the above technological advances replacing human jobs, especially the manual ones, are not distributed equally.  Although, it might appear that men are likely to be affected more, women are equally vulnerable.

This key note address at the Digital Development Forum of the Asian Development Bank, Manila in October 2018 highlights the role of broadband internet in socio-economic development of societies while also underlying the importance of affordable internet amongst the most marginalised communities, especially women.

ABSTRACT The study examined the evolving role of Information Technology executives in higher education with the objective of detailing the skills and experiences necessary to be a Chief Information Officer (CIO), the expectations of the leaders in higher education of these individuals and how leaders in higher education view the role of the CIO. The CIO position is no longer highly focused on technical issues, but has influence on the institution’s mission critical strategies, which clearly shows that the position has experienced organizational ascension. The study uses a qualitative methodology — phenomenology — to explore the CIO position in higher education. The results are discussed in the following three dimensions: skills & experiences, expectations of the leaders in higher education of the CIOs, and how leaders in higher education view the role of the CIO. The findings indicated the need for CIOs to have multidimensional personalities, diverse work experience, higher education background with the ability to strategically adapt according to the institution’s needs. Therefore, the study has implications for universities in the process of hiring a CIO and addresses an important aspect of higher education administration. Most importantly, the Association of American University’s (AAU) CIOs followed the traditional path to the position (Birnbaum and Umbach in Review of Higher Education 24(3):203–217, 2001).

Interested authors should submit abstracts of up to 300 words and identify their future manuscript as an empirical research article or essay/opinion paper. Research articles should include a review of literature, clearly stated research question, methodology/design of the study, findings, and discussion/conclusion.

This report begins with a brief overview of the WIGUP initiative (Section 2), how it is used in the classroom (Section 3), and the overall and specific objectives of this exploratory study (Section 4). To better understand the relevance of this initiative for students, teachers, schools and society at large, the contextual elements are presented in three sections: technologies in education (Section5), skills for the 21st century (Section6), and WIGUP’s global citizen approach or the question of entrepreneurial skills (Section 7). The research methods are then described (Section 8), followed by the main research findings (Section 9). A conclusion (Section 10) completes this research report.

L’objectif de ce texte n’est pas de dresser un portrait de l’intelligence artificielle en éducation. C’est un chantier trop vaste impossible à traiter en quelques pages. Il est plutôt question de montrer qu’il est important de former les futurs enseignants aux rudiments de l’intelligence artificielle en éducation, non pas pour qu’ils soient des experts de ce domaine, mais plutôt pour les préparer à l’école de demain. Il s’agira aussi de les préparer à former les jeunes d’aujourd’hui à participer à l’édification de la société de demain.

Abstract
This study evaluated the application of ICT for data management of secondary schools in Enugu Education Zone. Four Research questions guided the study. Four null hypotheses were formulated and tested at D.05 level of significance. The study was a descriptive survey, The study population comprised all the 31 secondary schools in Enugu Education Zone of Enugu State/ Made up of 31 Principals and l259`teachers. The sample size for the study was 31 principals and 126 teachers totaling 157 samples selected using stratified random sampling technique. The instrument that was used to collect the data was a questionnaire. The instrument was face validated by three lecturers while the data collected were analyzed using mean with standard deviation. Cronbach reliability alpha was used to ascertain the reliability of the study and t-test statistics was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.5 significance using SPSS 20. The finding were that ICT facilities are not available in the secondary schools, ICT facilities are utilized to a very low extent in the secondary schools, there are constraints militating against the use of ICT facilities in secondary schools and the strategies that could be employed to enhance the utilization of ICT facilities by administrators in secondary schools in Enugu education zone. In view of these findings, it was recommended that ICT facilities should be made available through government funding and well spirited individual or donour agencies, ICT facilities should be properly utilized by administrators in secondary schools, and the constraints militating against the use of ICT facilities in secondary schools in Enugu Education zone should be resolved through the implementation of the strategies that is shown in this study.
