Executive Summary
The Gambia’s human rights record has been worsening in the last 20 years. Journalists and citizens critical of the government and its policies knew this all too well. They have been targeted with harassment, summary arrests, jail terms, enforced disappearances and even death and denied their right to freedom of expression.
Attaining a free press under an environment tolerant to citizens’ right to free expression on issues of government remains a very big challenge in The Gambia – more than 50 years after independence.
Multilateral diplomacy has proven to be a very useful and successful tool to restore freedoms and other rights where a government has the political will to ensure citizens enjoy greater freedoms and be able to positively contribute to their own development and that of their country. Some good practices adopted by some African countries have been highlighted in this paper to serve as a model for The Gambia.
It is unarguable that the right to free expression, from which all other rights are derived, is fundamental in the human, economic and political development of a country.
Thus, the government of The Gambia has to ensure it creates the space for people to be able to express their feelings and opinions on political, cultural, social and economical issues affecting them.
This cannot be realized in any situation where the media is not free to carry out its watchdog role – holding government and its officials accountable to the public – to promote democracy, good governance, and greater transparency.
This policy research takes account of the state of press freedom and free expression; Gambia’s international obligations; the role of multilateral diplomacy in advancing free expression with emphasis on good practices; and ends with recommendations intended to influence the formulation of positive policies on press freedom, free expression and access to information.

In 2016/2019, in its fourth year of implementation, an evaluation of the ‘Talking Trees’ project entitled “Follow-On-Funding: Phase II with Somali Pastoralists’ Communities in Garissa and Wajir Counties, Kenya” is being undertaken. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the extent to which and under what circumstances the ‘Talking Trees’ project has accelerated the abandonment of FGM/C in programme in specific project locations during the period 2016-2019.
The evaluation includes a total of four County Case Studies namely: Garissa, Wajir, Narok and Kajiado Counties of Kenya. The purpose of the County Case Studies is to explore and illustrate key issues, while taking into account specific national, county and community-level contexts in which the ‘Talking Trees’ project was implemented. Each County Case Study is intended both as a stand-alone document, and as a contribution to the final evaluation report. Garissa and Wajir Counties were selected as the pilot County Case Studies. Criteria for their selection included the following four facts. They are one of the six initial counties where the ‘Talking Trees’ project was first to be implemented in 2016. They provide an example of a Pastoralists’ national and community context. They are representative of the Eastern and Northern Kenya sub-regions. Most of the geographic areas where the ‘Talking Trees’ project took place were accessible at the time of the evaluation.

Dr. RM Pal was the principal of the Rajdhani College in Delhi who actively worked with the human rights organization People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), gave lectures on secularism and issue of Dalits and minorities at various government institutions including police academy and other such places. He was an associate of the legendary M.N. Roy. A radical humanist Dr. Pal became President of Delhi PUCL and edited its journal PUCL Bulletin for many years. He also edited The Radical Humanist for many years. This interview was conducted at his Greater Kailash residence several years ago and part of my book ' Contesting Marginalisations : Conversations on Ambedkarism and Social Justice', published by People's Literature Publication, Mumbai, 2017. Ethiopia has implemented one of the world's most cost-effective systems to document land holdings, the land certification system. After more than 15 years since its launch, questions have been raised regarding its functionality. Specifically, there are concerns about the process of updating land certificates, thus ensuring the certificates and the registry are up-to-date. This exploratory evaluation seeks to provide formative evidence regarding this question, and, if warranted, give direction as to where additional research is needed. We find that in some areas, the mechanisms for updating land certificates are functional and in other areas not. Based upon these findings, we suggest four areas for future research, namely: (1) assessing the extent of non-functionality on a broader scale, (2) investigating the causes of non-functionality and viable options for addressing the cases thereof, (3) how policy can best address uninheritable land due to its small size, and (4) evaluating the viability of the future of rural livelihoods and what services ought to be put in place to enable a transition that provides decent livelihood alternatives.

This LL.M. dissertation of mine in the University of Chittagong back in 2007 attempted to - develop an in-depth understanding of the linkages between human rights and education - both as a right itself and as an arbitrator between this and other rights and the reasons behind low priority and lack of education; promote the right to education especially judicial engagement in this arena and suggest opportunities and future directions with a view to improving response to peoples’ education needs.

"Tara Reynor O’Grady presents this exclusive article to the Bahrain Interfaith Center. She is an Irish Human Rights Defender and Social Media Activist that has been advocating for the promotion of universal human rights in Bahrain since the arrest of the medics in 2011.
O’Grady talked about her journey to reach Imam Hussein, after extensive research in different religions. She said: “I was immersed in a multi cultured religiosity that was so contrary to my Irish experience that I had to significantly expand my beliefs on the HOW to embrace an active relationship with God and the diversity of multiple faiths. I met, befriended and sometimes attended church with Mormons, Baptists, Evangelicals, Seventh Day Adventists, Spiritualists, American Indians, Humanists, Agnostics, Atheists, Jews, Muslims or those who believe in reincarnation, resurrection, universal energy or the great void. I listened to them all respectfully and was glad for them, for their faith and their commitment to it. But they could not adequately captivate my attention and did not influence the path of my devotion”.

However, she added “the more I learned of Imam Hussein, and the events of Ashura, the more I was convicted that my path would lead me to Karbala”

For the better part of a century, the United States could claim the moral high ground despite allegations of hypocrisy because its policies continuously contradicted its proclaimed propagation of democracy and human rights. Under President Donald J. Trump, the US has lost that moral high ground.

Yaşlı Dostu Kentler için sosyal politikaların esas kaynağı da insan hakları, insan onuruna yaraşır yaşam koşulları, dolayısıyla "hak ve eşitlik ilkesi" üzerinden temellendirilmelidir. Bu çalışmada yaşlı dostu kentler için yapılacak düzenleme ve çalışmalar hiçbir zaman yerel yönetimlerin yaşlılara yardım/iyiliği değil, insan olarak eşitliği ve toplumun bütünleşmesini sağlayıcı olmasının önemi ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.

What role does affirmative action play in transitioning toward a more just society? The two literatures best equipped to answer this question — transitional justice and affirmative action — have neglected both the question and one another. Transitional justice scholars have focused on a limited set of measures (such as truth commissions and criminal prosecutions) and overlooked the role of affirmative action in facilitating transition. At the same time, affirmative action scholars have neglected the ways affirmative action may be part of a larger transitional justice project. Bringing these literatures into conversation for the first time, this Article shows how integrating affirmative action and transitional justice can advance our understanding of both practices. Affirmative action can bring attention to structural inequalities in transitional societies and help delineate the boundaries of transitional justice. In so doing, affirmative action can bridge a divide between the field of transitional justice and the phenomenon of societal transition that it seeks to understand and facilitate. Transitional justice, on the other hand, can elucidate how the period of transition informs affirmative action’s features and functions; it can also illuminate affirmative action’s strengths and shortcomings in bringing about a more just society. Affirmative action should therefore be added to the transitional justice ‘toolkit’ and anchored in transitional justice concepts and debates.

In this essay, I focus on Black podcasts produced by African Americans. This new alternative forms of podcasting have been created against the whiteness modele in the mainstream American media, public radio and popular podcasts. Black podcasters believe that if there is a gap between the « white well educated man » listener and the others, it is mainly because the podcasters are, most of the time, white Americans. African Americans podcasters want to solve this problematic lack of representation.

Представлені рекомендації можуть бути використані Міністерством освіти і науки України,
Департаментом кіберполіції Національної поліції України, громадськими організаціями
та безпосередньо батьками й особами, які їх замінюють, для запобігання порушень прав людини в
Інтернеті в закладах освіти.
