Field Geology

Field geological and petrographic characteristics of granitic rocks of Cherlapally area, Nalgonda district, Telangana, within the eastern Dharwar craton are described in this paper. Field traverses revealed four types of granitic rocks in the study are viz., quartz diorite, granodiorite, monzogranite and syenogranite. The variations in the texture and mineralogical composition of these plutons are so distinct that the term migmatite' has to be applied, wherein mutual field relations always remain enigmatic. The complex nature of the batholiths is also evident from the structural fabrics observed in the present investigation. N. Ningam | P. R. C. We present new structural data from the Bahia Concepción-Peninsula on the Gulf of California margin of Baja California Sur, using detailed mapping of plutonic, volcanic and sedimentary rocks. These are exposed along west-dipping range front normal faults first mapped by McFall in 1968. There, footwall uplift has exposed Cretaceous granitic basement, as well as the oldest units of the Comondú Group, which consists of Oligocene to Miocene arc volcanic rocks. Widespread and distinctive ignimbrites occur at three stratigraphic levels, allowing us to map fault offsets in the stratigraphy. We present detailed maps of two areas along the 4.5 km long range front fault system mapped by McFall. This was done through field mapping on Google Earth images, presented on a topographic base with an accompanying cross section. We also present stereonet plots of fault planes and annotated field photos from the detailed map areas. We also present a block diagram showing the faults along the entire range front, supported by the geologic map, cross sections and oblique areal photos taken from a plane by Rebecca Dorsey.
The range front fault system (RFFS) strikes NNW-SSE and dips ca. 35-50° west. The footwall of the main fault exposes east-dippping Cretaceous basement and the lower Comondú Oligocene ignimbrites and interstratified sedimentary rocks. However the Oligocene footwall ignimbrites are repeated by at least two secondary faults of the RFFS with dip slip offsets on the order of 100 m. The hangingwall of the main RFFS has east-dipping block-and-ash-flow tuffs and debris flow deposits, regionally dated as Middle Miocene, as well as Late Miocene lavas dated here at 10.96 ± 0.08 Ma. This fault juxtaposes Oligocene units in the footwall with Late Miocene units in the hangingwall, and thus probably records hundreds of meters of offset, as well the blocks are rotated due to a listric movement.
We also found sinistral transfer faults perpendicular to the main fault system, striking NNE-SSW. The faults cut the range normal fault and secondary normal faults in the footwall, the offset is 50m to 300m. Interestingly in some places the strike-slip faults cut the quaternary deposits, what is an evidence of a recent accommodation. 


No presente trabalho dá-se conhecimento do processamento realizado em Sistemas de Informação Geográfica dos resultados obtidos dos trabalhos realizados, quer no laboratório, quer no terreno onde vai ser construído o Conjunto Turístico Colombo´s Resort, localizado no Campo de Baixo, ilha do Porto Santo, Arquipélago da Madeira. Nas investigações e trabalhos esteve envolvida uma equipa de investigadores e técnicos, por solicitação da Sociedade Imobiliária e Turística do Campo de Baixo, Lda. Numa primeira fase foi reunida documentação impressa em papel e em formato digital, julgada relevante para o desenvolvimento dos trabalhos: publicações, carta topográfica, carta geológica (escala 1:25.000) e fotografia aérea (escalas 1:8.000 e 1.25.000). Numa segunda fase, foram realizados nos dias 6 e 7 de Junho
de 2002 trabalhos preliminares, que consistiram num conjunto de observações e anotações de campo de carácter geológico, geomorfológico e hidrológico, também sobre acessibilidades pedonais e rodoviárias, e ainda registos fotográficos, tendo em vista a adopção dos métodos de prospecção mais adequados. Numa terceira fase e com as equipas já instaladas no terreno, deu-se início aos trabalhos de preparação do terreno (marcação de perfis e desmatação) e criação de acessibilidades. Posteriormente realizaram-se trabalhos de cartografia geológica, prospecção geotécnica e geofísica, amostragem de sedimentos e águas, que decorreram durante os meses de Junho, Julho e Setembro de 2002. Ao longo da execução dos trabalhos, a informação recolhida foi selectivamente tratada e processada em ambiente SIG, tendo este sido particularmente utilizado durante a elaboração do relatório, a quarta, e última fase. Os trabalhos tiveram como objectivo a recolha de elementos necessários à elaboração do projecto de fundações para as três fases de construção previstas para o Conjunto Turístico Colombo´s Resort, bem como, definir a localização dos poços e galerias de captação de água salgada para abastecimento do Centro de Talassoterapia a instalar na Clínica de Geomedicina, e abastecimento de lagos e piscinas.
