An approach to the optimization of raster-scan circle-drawing algorithms is presented. The approach is based on the program transformation theory, which is a subset of Dijkstra's weakest precondition calculus. In this way, care of the correctness of the algorithm is incorporated in the optimization process. The authors propose that a designer and an implementor define the problem together, translating quality requirements and technology constraints into algorithm requirements. Then the standard solution should be explained and optimized in terms of weakest precondition. Thanks to the approach with an invariant and a bound function, it is possible to separate aspects concerning optimization and correctness. The method is illustrated by the optimization of an integer case circle algorithm.

Binomial Distribution
Definition 1: Suppose an experiment has the following characteristics:

the experiment consists of n independent trials, each with two mutually exclusive outcomes (success and failure)
for each trial the probability of success is p (and so the probability of failure is 1 – p)
Each such trial is called a Bernoulli trial. Let x be the discrete random variable whose value is the number of successes in n trials. Then the probability distribution function for x is called the binomial distribution, B(n, p), and is defined as Binomial distribution formula

Excel Function: Excel provides the following functions regarding the binomial distribution:

BINOMDIST(x, n, p, cum) where n = the number of trials, p = the probability of success for each trial and cum takes the value TRUE or FALSE.

BINOMDIST(x, n, p,  FALSE) = probability density function f(x) value at x for the binomial distribution B(n, p), i.e. the probability that there are x successes in n trials where the probability of success on any trial is p.

BINOMDIST(x, n, p, TRUE) = cumulative probability distribution F(x) value at x for the binomial distribution B(n, p), i.e. the probability that there are at most x successes in n trials where the probability of success on any trial is p.

CRITBINOM(n, p, 1 – α) = critical value; i.e. the minimum value of x such that F(x) ≥ 1 – α, where F is the cumulative binomial distribution function for B(n, p)

This interactive workshop explores the nexus between computer programming and music in grades three and up. We will learn how to create two projects in Scratch, as well as a hip version of "Hot Cross Buns" using the program Sonic Pi. No coding or music experience required.

This session discusses how to seamlessly integrate formative, summative, and ipsative assessment practices within K-12 coding projects and lessons. We will explore each of the three approaches and I will provide both formal and informal examples of how each type of assessment might occur within a project or lesson.

This interactive workshop explores the nexus between computer programming and music. We will learn how to create music in Scratch, as well as a hip version of "Hot Cross Buns" using the program Sonic Pi. No coding or music experience required; however, please bring a laptop for maximum fun.

This discussion-based presentation focuses on three emerging music nexuses: 1) music performance and technology; 2) music and video games; and 3) music and coding. The presentation slides below provide many resources related to these nexuses; however, the discussions originated from this presentation are not intended to be limited to these nexuses. I intend for this presentation to be a springboard for discussion on emerging music nexuses and their implications in music education/facilitation.

The growing use of advanced AI, ambient intelligence, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) technologies of the sort found within the emerging cyber-physical smart workplace has been described as enabling new forms of human-computer interaction (HCI) that are “magical” in nature. This study shows that from an anthropological perspective, such a workplace environment can indeed be understood as “magical”; however, that “magicality” is a double-edged sword that can potentially both enhance and damage user experience (UX) for workers and other occupants of such environments. First, by analyzing existing social anthropological and philosophical anthropological accounts of magic, typical elements of magical practice are identified. Using Nielsen’s empirical analysis of HCI usability heuristics as a basis, a prospective heuristic evaluation is then carried out for the usability of a generic “magical” environment, in order to identify elements of magical practice that might be expected to enhance or impair user experience when they are required for interaction with the environment. A more specific heuristic usability evaluation is then performed for the “magical” aspects of HCI created by two kinds of constituent technologies that are typical for a cyber-physical smart workplace: those of (a) ambient intelligence and IoT-enabled systems and (b) AR and VR systems. It is shown that the magical aspects of HCI within the emerging cyber-physical smart workplace differ significantly in their potential UX impacts from the magicality involved with earlier forms of computing, and the implications of this fact for the management of future workplaces are identified and discussed.
