La série de publications concernant les monnaies byzantines découvertes en Dobroudja continue par le septième volume – Monede bizantine descoperite la Nufăru, județul Tulcea, secolele IX-XIII, partea I-II = Monnaies byzantines découvertes à Nufăru, département de Tulcea, les IXe-XIIIe siècles, I-ère et II-ème parties. L'ouvrage paraît à l'occasion de l'anniversaire des 40 ans de recherches archéologiques à Nufăru (1978-2018).
La II-ème partie présente le catalogues des découvertes monétaires.

L'ouvrage paraît à l'occasion de l'anniversaire des 40 ans de recherches archéologiques à Nufăru (1978-2018).
La I-ère partie fait un bilan des découvertes archéologiques et numismatiques.

L'incontro intende proporre la riflessione su una particolare categoria di monete, ossia quegli esemplari che furono deliberatamente spezzati in due o più porzioni nel corso della loro circolazione, con la finalità di originare due o più 'monete' di valore minore, in periodi di insufficiente approvvigionamento di nominali divisionali da parte delle zecche. La tematica sarà affrontata con aggiornate metodologie di analisi, soprattutto sulla base della documentazione da recenti scavi archeologici che, grazie allo studio contestuale, può fornire indicazioni cronologiche più sicure. Appare anche necessario indagare i modi d'uso e il rapporto che la moneta frazionata intrattiene con i nominali di piccolo conto contemporaneamente circolanti, allargando l'ambito di indagine sia in senso geografico che cronologico, così da definire quadri regionali e questioni economiche, che possano poi comporre una visione generale, nella quale si evidenzino difformità e analogie

The paper presents a topographical and chronological survey of 50 byzantine coins found in Gnezdovo. The chronological distribution of the finds provides evidence of at least two separate “waves” of active coin importation to the settlement. A comparative analysis of byzantine coin finds from Gnezdovo and Kiev suggests there were considerable differences in the inflow’s pattern of folles, miliaresia and nomismata to the two early urban centers. For instance, the predominance of early folles in Gnezdovo indicates that direct contacts with Byzantium up to the mid-10th century were frequent whereas numismatic data from Kiev suggests such contacts intensified only in the late 10th – mid-11th c. when the coin inflow in Gnezdovo virtually ceased.

Numismatiker in Deutschland. Zur Situation im Jahre 2019, in: Geldgeschichtliche Nachrichten 54, 2019, 264-277.

Einleitung:
Numismatik ist die Wissenschaft, die zur Erforschung von Münzen und anderen Geldformen sowie artverwandten Objekten wie Medaillen dient. Personell ist die Numismatik ein Miteinander von fest angestellten Numismatikern im öffentlichen Dienst, Numismatikern mit Zeitverträgen, Numismatikern im Handel und den privaten Sammlern, die mit ihren Sammlungen und Forschungen seit jeher zur Weiterentwicklung des Faches beitragen. Dieser Beitrag ist der Gruppe der fest angestellten wissenschaftlichen Numismatiker in öffentlichen Einrichtungen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland gewidmet.

В статье анализируется серия медных монет византийского типа, найденных за последние несколько лет на территории Армении и приграничных районов Грузии. Приведено чтение надписей на этих монетах, реконструирована хронология их выпусков. Обосновывается локализация чеканки этих монет в Двине в промежуток между занятием города византийцами в 1049 г. и началом правления Искандара ибн Шавура Шаддадида в 1053 г. Анонимность монет, а также разнообразие иконографических и текстологических искажений на них исключают возможность их выпуска при непосредственном участии византийской администрации, что заставляет видеть в их эмитенте самостоятельно действовавший совет старейшин Двина.

A series of the copper coins of Byzantine type, unearthed during last years on the territory of Armenia and near-border regions of Georgia, is analyzed in the article. Their description and reading of the monetary legend was done, and the chronology of their issue was reconstructed. As a result, the minting of such coins in Dvin between the Byzantine capture in 1049 and enthroning of Iskandar b. Shawur in 1053 was proved. A diversity of iconographical and textual distortions on the discussed copper coins excludes the possibility of their issue under Byzantine control. Instead, it is more likely that such issues represented a local phenomenon. They appeared with the approval of the Council of Dvin which consisted of the city’s noblemen and military elite.

Historians have long regarded Maurice Tiberius as the last Roman emperor who struggled to restore the stability of the Balkan provinces. This essay argues that a major financial crisis is responsible for the downfall of Maurice and the collapse of the Danube frontier after 602. Maurice inherited a depleted treasury and a war conducted on two fronts, in the Balkans and the East. A careful analysis of the emperor’s monetary policy during his long reign reveals a chronic shortage of cash, which the emperor tried to solve through a series of unsuccessful reforms. The body of coin finds from the Northern Balkans shows an abrupt decline in the coin supply during the second decade of Maurice’s reign, when Roman armies were once again active in the Danube region. The state’s inability to provide adequate supplies and regular payments to the soldiers led to the mutiny of 602. The emperor’s decision to force his army to spend the winter in enemy territory was simply the last straw that broke the soldiers’ loyalty to the emperor.

The hexagram was first minted during the darkest days of the final Roman-Persian War (602—628) when Roman fortunes were at their lowest. As a result, commentators have read the coin's novel inscription, Deus Adiuta Romanis (God, help the Romans) as evidence for the 'stressful and desperate' state of the empire. This paper presents the case that reading the coin alongside evidence for popular military practices instead paints a picture of the Roman state apparatus deftly manipulating mass propaganda. For the Romans in the 610s, these new coins signalled not defeatism but defiance and the promise of victory.

El imperio bizantino 1 , tomado como un ente autárquico del imperio romano de occidente, fue uno de los más longevos de la historia. Duró más de 1000 años transitando toda la Edad Tardoantigua y Edad Media, siendo trascendental para el contexto político y religioso de la Edad Moderna y Contemporánea. Como mencionábamos, siempre que se nombra la Edad Media la referenciamos con la caída del imperio romano, la decadencia del saber, las cruzadas, los caballeros, el feudalismo... No obstante, el imperio romano en realidad no cayó y continuó durante toda la Edad Media gracias al imperio que modernamente llamamos «Bizantino», manteniendo la grandeza de la cultura griega 2 y romana por varios siglos más. Esta porción del imperio romano continuó siendo rica, poderosa, ilustrada y culta, mientras Europa Occidental se encontraba debilitada, dividida, sumida en la ignorancia y la barbarie. Ni Europa, ni América serían como son en la actualidad, si el imperio bizantino no hubiese frenado el avance musulmán a Europa, al menos hasta su caída en 1453 d.C., cuando Europa se encontraba ya fortalecida para defenderse por sí sola. La relevancia histórica del imperio bizantino pudo lograrse, en gran parte, gracias a los cambios generados en sus inicios, entre ellos la «Reforma monetaria de Anastasio» que veremos más adelante.
